I’d say the probability of you ending up here due to literally googling “thinking too much” for help is non-negligible. I find it amusing that in our modern, mostly rationality-based society, where higher cognitive output and faster cognitive processing are still valued as THE traits to make it in school and with regards to most academic careers, us peeps suffering from “overthinking” seem to encounter some problems with unscheduled excess cognitive residue.
But how many thoughts are too many? Who is the you that talks about you? How many drafts does it take to write the perfect manuscript? When exactly does a careful consideration of risks and benefits turn a strategic advantage into a burden? How many times is one too many when it comes to checking whether you turned off your kitchen appliance? Why is perfection something we value as much as we know it to be unattainable?
Heck if I know. But that won’t stop me from trying to find out.
